Part of the harvest is sold immediately after picking. However, there are so many apples picked that part is placed in cold storage. The cooling cells are very cold and airtight. The oxygen is extracted from the cells so that the apples don’t mature. As a result, the apples stay fresh and smooth for much longer and will not wrinkle. Apples picked in September, can still be eaten in June of the following year.
The method of storage, sorting, packing and processing is chosen so that we are flexible and not dependent on third parties. The export market, which we sell some of our products to, often requests a complete cargo with the same variety, quality and size. Various forms of packaging must be available for this purpose.
From the menu on the right you can read more about what happens after picking: the cooling and sorting process.
