Almakúti is one of the seven companies of the J.C. van Kessel Group. Entrepreneurship with vision is the paramount of our group: with each development the quality of the entire society counts. This way we want to contribute to living, working and welfare in the Zalaszanto environment.
Almakúti is an old name for ‘applesource’. Residents of the 13th century named the area like this because of the many apple trees that were around. This emerges from a Latin text we received from a historian from the local vicinity. Hence, we did not make up the name ‘Almakúti’ but merely prolonged it from the previous residents.
We have the disposal of 215 acres of land which is equivalent to 430 soccer fields. More than 400,000 trees are planted here. Each year we cultivate 4.5 million kilo apples in an environmentally friendly way. The company is situated in the magnificent national park of Balaton – Felvidéki. The soil quality at Almakúti is clean and the composition is suitable for cultivating fruit. The soil type is of the so-called ‘Löss’ soil variety, as a result, the trees are fed with water from the Pannon layer.
Everything is done in-house, from cultivation to packaging. We use modern machinery, there is a sorting plant and ULO cooling. Herein the apples are stored under low oxygen, in airtight cells so that they stay fresh for months.
